Catholic schools across Gippsland and Melbourne’s outer south-east are celebrating Catholic Education this week from 17th to 24th May. This is a chance for us all to celebrate and be proud of the welcoming faith and learning environment we have here at St John’s.

This year’s theme, A New Dialogue of Love, Hope and Joy is inspired by the Scripture passage,  See, I am Making All Things New’, Revelation 21:5.

St John’s was the host for a video in which Paul Velten (Director of Catholic Education Diocese of Sale) explained Catholic Education and the part the 38 Catholic schools in our diocese play in inspiring young people to engage with the Christian message and to showcase their efforts in making a positive impact on society.

Here at St John’s our students will celebrate by joining  students from the schools within our Parishes in Partnership – St James, Nar Nar Goon and Columba, Bunyip to celebrate Mass.  Please note the days below- All Welcome

  • Wednesday May 22 – Columba, Bunyip to host Years 3 & 4 Mass -10am
  • Thursday May 23 – St John’s, Koo Wee Rup to host Foundation – Year 2 Mass -10am
  • Friday May 24 – St James, Nar Nar Goon to host Years  5 & 6 Mass – 10am

Thanks to all the families who supported our Mothers’ Day Breakfast on Friday and if it was your first time with us, we hope you really enjoyed yourself.  Once again our staff outdid themselves with the organisation, cooking, presentation and clean up, following such an early start.

For those who were able to stay on and celebrate our Mothers’ Day Liturgy that followed, we’re sure you found that very special too.

Our continued blessings to all the mothers and special women in the lives of our students.

One of the highlights for our Grade Three and Four students is the Kitchen Garden Program.  Groups rotate between being creative in the kitchen, maintaining the vegetable garden or doing other related activities when garden work isn’t practical.

Mrs Banjac recently shared some results of one such alternative activity, Kitchen Garden Art.

Check out further works of art which I think you’ll agree, are just ‘beetiful’, on our ‘From the Classrooms’ page.

Our whole school event to celebrate Easter will be our re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross.

The Stations of the Cross is a Catholic tradition where the events of Holy Week, the significant events in the days leading to the crucifixion of Jesus, are highlighted through reflection, prayer and often actions.

It may seem unusual to highlight and reflect on the harshness and cruelty of events leading to a crucifixion, even with consideration to that being the punishment of those times, however our true focus is on the utter and complete unconditional love that Jesus showed towards his Father’s will, and ultimately for our sake.

The Stations of the Cross reminds us of the signifance of the Crucifix in our Catholic tradition and the powerful prayer, ‘In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Please join us as our students lead us through this reflective experience…

Thursday 28th March:  11:30 AM – 12:45 PM

Our senior school Swimming Program is now complete. It was pleasing to see our students enjoying the program and the challenges it provided in developing their skills. The final session, on water safety and rescue, was certainly a highlight.

The Juniour Swimming Program will take place in Term 3.
