We look forward to completing our Book Week themed activities with a visit from author and storyteller, Michael Wagner, on Friday 30th August. Our student’s have been gaining a greater awareness of his books and writing style.

Michael visits lots of school, libraries and festivals every year and we look forward to learning Michael’s strategies for writing engaging stories and gaining further inspiration towards our students’ own story writing.

We can look forward to the following during Michael’s visit:

K-2

Michael performs hilarious, lively readings and stories that are drawn from both his books and his life.

Grades 3-6

Michael use funny images, video clips and lots of humour to explain where ideas come from, why ideas matter, his creative process, how to keep and use journals, and much more.

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated, with Bishop Greg presiding, over two Masses on Wednesday 28th August at St John’s Church, Koo Wee Rup.   The first Mass is at 5pm and the second Mass at 7pm.

Families will be able to nominate which Confirmation Mass they will attend once more information is shared at the Preparation Session to be held shortly.

Students have been preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation throughout their faith journeys with their families and here at St John’s however more recently, their focus has been on learning the gifts of the Spirit and completing a research project on their chosen saint.

As a faith community we keep the Confirmation Candidates in our prayers; may their hearts and minds be open to receive the gifts of the Spirit.

Thank you to all those families who supported our recent Book Fair.

Through this support, not only do you get the opportunity to browse through a great selection of books at leisure but also reinforce the value of reading which benefits children’s learning in so many ways.

The school is also now able to make a considerable addition of books to our library collection which will benefit all our current and future students.

The other library events to look forward to this month are:

Our school works closely to support our local St Vinnies Group of volunteers who are currently running their Winter Appeal.

Each class has baskets for their donations of non-perishable items. Canned foods and small jars of everyday pantry items, toiletries and other essentials.

Clean out your Linen cupboard for blankets etc. no longer used and check your wardrobe for excess jumpers and beanies – everything will go to use.

NAIDOC Week is celebrated from the 7th-14th July which will occur during our school holidays.

NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to recognise and learn more about the history and culture of Indigenous communities which helps build positive relationships

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.

The link that follows takes you to a special report by School TV which encourages families to join in and support young people in learning the significance of NAIDOC Week and offers suggestions on how families can celebrate NAIDOC Week together.

If you have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
